Cherry blossoms and pokeberry in Brooklyn

Moon Beams and Pollen, the name of the first painting in a trio I recently finished. I like that one, but the other two are a bit too messy for my taste. I can appreciate them for representing a certain chaos in the air as of late. Looking back on the recent past though I think I’d prefer to find other ways to release that kind of frenetic energy and save my canvases for more peaceful states of being; that’s what I’ll strive to emit through my work moving forward.

The Full Moon in Scorpio called for a release of the fire within, and a release of a block print I did in pokeberry after last Summer’s harvest. I ended up finalizing two pieces from that time, stretching both over birch and poplar panel. Lately I’ve been captivated by Remedios Varo and other visions of mother-of-pearl inlay, so I had a go with it on the birch panel. It was nice but I don’t think it’s something I’ll actively incorporate. Pokeberry and mother-of-pearl, just another distraction, something to “get out of my system”, you could say..

I’m a little more than halfway through my goal of 25 new works by Summer Solstice. Ten left, with a little over a month to finish them. I’ve shared 11 of the first 15 here: Oil on linen. “There’s great successes throughout”, as someone once told me; but I’ve got a more narrow and more focused vision for the final ten, then on to 25 larger works by Winter Solstice. Yeehaw!
